An SMTP server that forwards email from any sender to any recipient without authentication, commonly exploited by spammers to send bulk mail while hiding their origin. Open relays are quickly blacklisted by spam databases like Spamhaus and CBL, causing all outbound mail from that IP to be rejected. SMTP AUTH and proper firewall rules are essential to prevent misconfigured relays.
