Abstract
RFC 8307 registers the 'ws' and 'wss' URI scheme names in the IANA URI Schemes registry as well-known URI schemes for the WebSocket Protocol defined in RFC 6455. It clarifies that 'ws' maps to HTTP on port 80 and 'wss' maps to HTTPS on port 443 for the WebSocket upgrade handshake.
