Abstract
RFC 7231 defined the semantics and content of HTTP/1.1, covering request methods, status codes, and header fields. It served as the primary HTTP semantics reference from 2014 to 2022 and has been obsoleted by RFC 9110, which supersedes it with an updated and consolidated HTTP Semantics document.
