Abstract
RFC 6891 defines EDNS(0), the Extension Mechanisms for DNS, which introduces the OPT pseudo-resource record to carry additional per-message parameters. EDNS allows larger UDP payload sizes (overcoming the 512-byte original limit), DNSSEC signaling (DO bit), and future protocol extensions.
