CNAME Record

A DNS record that maps an alias domain name to a canonical (true) domain name, creating a redirect at the DNS level. Resolvers follow the chain until they reach an A or AAAA record for the final IP. CNAME records cannot coexist with other record types at the same name (except at the zone apex in some implementations), so they are typically used for subdomains.
