RFC 7692 defines the WebSocket Per-Message Compression extension framework and the permessage-deflate extension using the DEFLATE algorithm. It allows WebSocket clients and servers to negotiate compression of message payloads during the opening handshake, reducing bandwidth for text-heavy workloads.
