SIP OPTIONS

A SIP method used to query a server or user agent about its capabilities — supported methods, codecs, extensions, and Max-Forwards limit — without establishing a session. OPTIONS is commonly used for SIP trunk keepalives: a PBX periodically sends OPTIONS to the provider to verify the trunk is alive and confirm mutual capabilities. The 200 OK response includes Allow, Accept, and Supported headers listing server capabilities.
